Q7.

What teaching methods do you use? What books and other materials are used?

Our teachers are all specialist English Language teachers. Our morning courses are based on the course books, and our afternoon classes focus on using all the skills, especially speaking.  We  use a variety of methods as our philosophy is to treat the student as an individual, and not every student learns in the same way. We cover all the four basic macro skills of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. We also cover grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. We use video and audio tapes, the Internet and computers as well as excursions to places of interest in Auckland so our classes are as interesting and relevant as possible.

Q9.

How long is each class?

The first morning class is 90 minutes long and the second is 60 minutes. It is the same in the afternoons.  You have one teacher for all your morning classes and two in the afternoons.  So full-time students have three teachers every day.

Q10.

What time do you need to come to school on the first day?

The Orientation Programme starts at 9.00 on the first day.  Please be early!

Q11.

How much homework do students have to do?

Students are given homework for a minimum three times per week. Most students like to stay at school and do their homework together for an hour after class.

Q12.

How long does it take to finish one language level?

That is a very difficult question. It will depend on the motivation of the student, and how keen they are to move on. Our classes are divided into 10 week terms, and we test all students every five weeks so students have the opportunity to change levels when they are ready.  All students are given a report every five weeks too.

Q13.

What activities are organized by school?

We offer activities every afternoon after school led by our Student Activities Officer. We also organise three or four excursions each weekend to places outside of Auckland such as Rotorua, Waitomo, Taupo, the Bay of Islands and Coromandel. There is a pub night every Wednesday.

Q14.

New Zealand, being located in the Pacific area, attracts mostly students from this region. The top six are Japan, Korea, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan and Russia.  We have 12% Europeans and 7% are from Tahiti and New Caledonia.

Q15.

What is the nationality mix?

We have about a 60/40 mix, Asian and Non-Asian.
